On Friday, April 12, the Spectrum softball team defeated the Lester Prairie Bulldogs 6-5 in extra innings on a walk off double by MacKenzie Scholer.  Scholer was clutch in her first varsity start going 2-4 and scoring one run, while driving in the game winning RBI.

The Sting were trailing 5-3 going into the bottom of the 7th inning.  Isabella Dorval and Sierra Anderson led off the inning by drawing a walk and a hit by pitch.  Natalie Duerr advanced the runners on a sharply hit groundball to second. With runners in scoring position, Grace Negus hit a double over the right fielder’s head to tie the game.  In the top of the 8th inning the Sting defense held, retiring the Bulldogs’ top of the order batters.  In the bottom of the 8th, Gracie Steffes led off with a single up the middle and Tracee DeHaan followed by drawing a walk. That led up to Scholer’s bases clearing double.

“I was proud of the way the girls played today”, said coach Rogers after the game. “When we played them earlier in the season we struck out 13 times. We had much better at bats today which resulted in a win against a strong conference opponent.”

Spectrum’s next game will be their home opener hosting West Lutheran on Tuesday, April 16.
