The Spectrum cross country team opened the season at the Princeton Invitational on August 30  that included runners from 16 schools.  The Sting girls placed 8th out of 10 scoring teams and the boys were 3rd.  Both the girls and boys competed on the 5,000 meter course held at Fairway Golf Club in Zimmerman.
The Spectrum girls were led by Junior Martha Bergley who finished in 15th place in a time of 22:40.  Besides Bergley, also scoring for the Sting was Freshman MaKayla Harmer (29th in 24:07), 7th grader Molly Novotny (30th in 24:08), Senior Hailey Johnson (39th in 24:49), and Junior McKenzie Alders (50th 25:19).
The boys were led by Senior Matt Helser who came in 7th in 18:16.  Others scoring for the Sting were Junior Caleb Rogers (10th in 18:31), Junior Andrew Hattling (12th in 18:39), Senior Desmond Orton (14th in 18:46). and Junior Noah Ritter (31st in 20:19).

"Our girls were solid and slightly ahead of where we were a year ago", said coach Rick Peterson.  "They have had a history of showing steady improvement throughout the season.  Martha (Bergley) has been our pace setter for the past two years and she picked right upwhere she left off last season.  The key to success for our boys will be closing the gap between our 4th and 5th runner.  Matt (Helser) ran very strong and newcomer Caleb Rogers did terrific for his first ever cross country meet.  Andrew (Hattling) 1/2 marathon training this summer has taken him to a whole new level."

Spectrum will travel to Pine City on Thursday, Sept. 6
